Rory Naismith: The identity of this coin is pretty clear: Æthelstan of East Anglia (c. 825-45), from the early/middle part of the reign, and by the moneyer Eadnoth. In my 2011 book on this period I had five other coins of this same general type (which I designated E36.2). However, this coin is not a die-duplicate of any of them, and both the obverse and the reverse are unusual. The obverse has small details (e.g. pelleted inner circle, pellets either side of the central A) that are more often associated with other moneyers. The inscription on the reverse is retrograde, or perhaps better semi-retrograde, in that the individual letters face the right way, but go in reverse order. There is one other coin of the same moneyer that does this, but it is not from the same dies. So – it is an interesting and unusual coin, though there is no reason to doubt that it comes from England around the same time as the Louis the Pious coins (i.e. about the 830s).
Svært uvanlig funn her til lands og denne mynten har også muligens unikt preg!
